Concepts to be introduced include the three areas that have the largest affect the economics of Litigation Management: Litigation Plans; Litigation Budgets; and, Valuations, Dispositions and Resolutions.

    Barger & Wolen partners John S. Pierce, Robert G. Levy, Larry M. Golub, Dawn N. Valentine and Travis Wall, along with associate Donielle Colich, have co-authored a book published by Aspen Publishing, updated in 2008, entitled Defending the Insured. The book is a practical guide for insurers and defense counsel concerning issues that arise nationwide in providing a defense to insureds pursuant to liability policies. Topics covered include the nature of rights and duties in the tripartite defense relationship, the use of independent counsel and allocation issues between the insurer and the insured. First published in 2004, the publication is the first of its kind to provide a state-by-state guide to legal professional ethics issues that impact the insurance industry, including the use of billing guidelines, staff counsel and legal fee audits.
